Adobe partners with Typekit

on Wed, 09/01/2010 - 14:59

To add to the tidal wave of fonts hitting the web these days Adobe has just added 24 families (122 individual fonts) to Typekit. This is a small number of the thousands of fonts Adobe owns but there are a few big ones in here that will get immediate use, notably Minion, Adobe Garamond Pro, Trajan Pro and Myriad pro (which happens to be the Acquia corporate font and will soon be seen on our site acquia.com). Anyone who has already used @font-face to deploy them will know that Adobe fonts are extremely well hinted for screen display and will look great on just about any system (except maybe Win XP with smoothing turned off). The tack that Adobe seems to be taking here is to set a very high bar for quality and release a smaller number of fonts only when they are ready.

The floodgates are open. I predict that by the end of 2011 most of the fonts currently available for print will also be available on the web.
